There has been so much love and support for this issue, it encouraged me to continue on past my own doubts that there would be no audience for our content.  That I believed in our mission to feature those not usually seen in mainstream magazines didn't mean anyone else would.

I was, and still am, so excited to see the positive response to the magazine, a continued positive response no less, as it made me realise that those in the yarn world were not as narrow minded as the mainstream representations would have us believe.

I am happy to see the yarn community becoming more aware of these issues and embracing the much needed change.

I'm still stunned at how fast the first year has shot by at yarnpeople.  So much has happened, so much has been learned in how we produce each issue, how I talk about and discuss issues both in person and online.  How I'm now bolder in speaking up at events in person to ensure all people are represented in community projects. More on this later....

I look back at our first issue with great fondness, produced within 6 weeks of taking the 'go now' decision.  After many months of planning, having sent out my first lace open call back in March 2018 taking that step was daunting.

March 2018 to now....has it really been that long?

After a year out in the world it's time for our first issue to be retired at the end of January 2020.

So for those who haven't seen this first issue here's a brief recap....

A selection of patterns in the issue include:

  • Warrior Wrap - Knit
  • Northern Winds Shawl - Knit
